Remember knowledge is power, but information is only beneficial if it's used and practiced.

Hydration!
Healthy skin is within reach! Feed your skin water, skin problems will go away more easily. When skin is hydrated, its defense system will be boosted naturally.
Everyone loves smooth and supple skin. Skin's ability to retain water diminishes as we age. Many of us do not fully understand how to properly hydrate our skin. Regardless of how expensive your moisturizer is, if you've missed some of the small yet crucial steps, all your effort and money could go down the drain.

4 steps to keep your skin and body hydrated
Step 1:
Do not let your cleanser stay on your face too long.
Step 3:
Use sheet masks strategically.
It is important to find a fine balance in cleansing. Don't lather your face too long. 30-60 seconds is all you need to clean your face. Leaving the cleanser on skin too long will dry up your face.

Use lukewarm water when washing your face. Scalping hot water might feel good during winter, but will deplete your skin's natural moisture.

Always put on your hydrating care immediately after face wash, preferably within 10 minutes. This 10 minutes is your golden period when your pores are open to take in moisture and nutrients.

Step 2:
Find a Perfect Balance.
Using ingredients known to retain water such as Hyaluronic Acid or Ceramide to keep your skin hydrated at all time. Be in touch with your skin. If your skin feels uncomfortably tight 30 minutes after face wash and starts to emit sebum, then your face is too dry. A well balanced skin should feel comfortable and naturally luminous.
When you use sheet mask, the face is in direct contact with the mask and the serum. This vacuum environment increases surface temperature and opens up pores to take in nutrients and moisture. After 20 minutes, your face will be soft and supple. Use sheet masks 2-3 times a week or strategically before any important events to restore the perfect balance back to your skin.

Step 4:
Stay hydrated in air-conditioning or heated room.
Keep the temperature around 77°F (25°C) to avoid over-drying your skin.

Use humidifier. If one is not available, leave a glass of water to increase the humidity of the room. Drink plenty of water to increase the moisture level in your body.

Using hydrating mist as much as necessary. Wait for 10-15 seconds after spraying. Use tissue paper to wipe away excess water to avoid the moisture in epidermis from vaporizing along with the excess water.

N.B.
Avoid using hydrating mist that contains alcohol! That will only make your face drier! Essential oil waters, rose or lavender water are excellent for face, body and hair misting throughout the day!

Hi,

Continuing from Part 3 of the 'Taking Care Of Your Skin' Series, we are discussing the role
and benefits of massage in skin care.

If you missed Part 1, 2 or 3 or both find links below. Please feel free to try the advice given
in this series for 3 weeks and come back and give us your thoughts, we'd love to hear from

Remember knowledge is power, but information is only beneficial if it's used and practiced.

Look out for part 5 (part five).

Be Healthy, Be Happy... Keep Your vibes positive!

 Skin care
This stage comes after mask and skin toning lotion to lock in the moisture as discussed in
Part 1.
N.B. Serum is applied before, cream or lotion moisturiser.

Cream vs. Serum
Due to the sheer number of skincare products on the market with different consistencies, the average consumer
is often confused when selecting the most suitable product.

In this article, we will provide you with some tools to help you make the best selection.
Let's start with the basics – what is the difference between a Serum and a Cream?

Creams have been around for a long time and are still the most popular form of skin care. Creams are typically
made by mixing oil with water. They tend to be moisturizing in action and may or may not contain active ingredients
to address specific skin concerns.

However, all of UNT's creams contain active ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid, VITAMIN E, and Q10. Generally,
creams are best suited for normal and dry skin types.

Serums are the new kids on the block and are gaining loyal followers quickly. Serums tend to be more liquid-like
and are water based. This makes them lightweight and easily absorbed into the skin. UNT's serums are formulated
to deliver topical ingredients such as Fullerene, Matryxl 3000, and m-Tranexamic Acid more effectively.

Serums are a concentrated way to get key ingredients into the skin. Serums can be layered on (normally no more
than 3 at a time) without adverse effects or degrading efficacy of the ingredients. Since serums tend to be light and
water based, they are suitable for most skin types.
The bottom line: Cream or Serum?
The most important factors in determining if you should select a Serum or Cream are your skin type, weather, and
your living environment.

Cream-based skincare is most suitable for people with dryer skin since they lack moisture and are most prone to
tightness and peeling. Reinforcing skincare with cream-based products will help restore sebum and moisture to
the skin, thereby delaying the speed at which moisture escapes from the skin.

People with combination skin and those who live in island or humid environments can also use cream-based skin-
care during seasonal changes. You can reinforce your hydrating efforts by simply applying cream based products
to areas prone to dryness and peeling. People who work in air-conditioned areas can also reinforce their skincare
with cream-based products to protect skin from moisture loss.

Oily and/or acne prone skin are prone to oil and have slower renewal cycles. If you use cream-based products with
high oil content, it can cause your pores to become clogged, thereby increasing occurrence of pimples or acne. For
people with oil or acne prone skin, we would recommend that you use oil-free serums or lotions with lighter
consistencies to lock in moisture.

Basic Tip:
Regardless of whether you use serum or cream-based skincare products, we recommend that you start with products
that have lighter consistencies since they have smaller molecular sizes and are easily absorbed. Proceed to layer with
products that have heavier consistencies.

Massage is perfect for enhancing circulation, exfoliation, toning, detoxification and general
health of the skin and muscles both in the body and in the face!

Read on and try the advice given below and in the previous parts of this Taking Care Of
Your Skin Series',  and come back and give us your feed back (we'd love to hear from you) -
Give the system a trial period of 3 weeks, but I'm sure you'll see a difference before this
period, regardless of the condition it is in now! What have you got to loose... it's free!

 Massage
 Health Care

Massage to youthfulness
If your body lacked sufficient, regular exercise, it would age more easily than those that do.
Same thing happens to your facial skin. However, the facial skin does not exercise like other
parts of the body. So we have to help it. Massage is an effective way of giving our facial skin
a good workout.
In general, facial massage mean applying pressure in different ways to create friction and
vibration. This stimulates circulations and keeps your skin in shape. Massage is an essential
therapy for the skin to purify itself, to retain its fresh, bright look. Meanwhile, it can also
prevent frostbite and extravasated blood caused by poor circulation, thus makes your skin
look even brighter. There is no shortcut in building a healthy, toned skin. Visible, positive
effects takes a long time to build up and thus requires patience and commitment on your
part. But the efforts pay off!

How to Do a General Facial Massage:
Step 1:
Before starting the massage, cleanse face thoroughly.
Step 2:
Move your head gently up and down, left and right to stimulate the blood circulation in
your neck.
Step 3:
Apply massage cream, cream-based skin products, nut or vegetable oil or serum. Massage
will help skin absorb better, the nutrients from the products. Again essential oils can be
used for extra benefits - 1 drop per 2.5ml.
Step 4:
Massage outward from the center of the face. Gently but firmly stroke and pinch/flick/tap
your face by following the directions of the arrows as shown in the pictures below.
Step 5:
Repeat the motion 12 to 15 times at each area. The whole process takes 20~30 minutes.
Step 6:
Apply pressure to points with finger tips along the wrinkles. While one hand pulls apart the
wrinkle, the other hand pad and smooth the wrinkles gently.
Step 7:
Wipe away the cream when finishing the massage. Rinse off your face thoroughly. Do not apply
any skincare products or makeup right away. Let your skin relax and rest.
Step 8:
In principle, the best time to massage is before going to bed.

Suggestions from Skin Advisor:
It is important to massage following the directions of the blood/lymphatic circulations, collagen
fibers, elastane fiber, and muscles. Since there are so many different layers in the skin, pulling
and draging too hard will gradually loosen muscles. Stroke using the pads of the fingers (gently
but firmly) and pinching or flicking patiently is the best way.
When tired or sick, you should avoid massage, because massage is an exercise for skin and
should not be applied when the skin lacks sufficient rest.
